Week 8

PRODUCTION MEETING #2

LOREM IPSUM

LOREM IPSUM

01

PROPOSAL

This week focused on clarifying the concept for the research poster and finalising the brief proposal as a last checkpoint. Since the main website layout template was not finalised yet, I temporarily used Figma Sites to lay out the presentation for this production meeting.

02

FEEDBACKS

I received feedback from both chi Duong and Simon, which informed my approach to both the side project and the FMP.

*ABOUT PROJECT

DIRECTION

They pointed out that while my secondary research has a solid foundation, the project is currently lacking visual investigation. At this stage, insights remain mostly theoretical and have not yet been translated into concrete design explorations.

✍️ Missing visual investigation limits concept development.

*ABOUT CONCEPT

& POSITIONING

The positionality of the project was identified as unclear. It is not yet defined whether the proposal is positioned as a new language-learning platform or a redesign of an existing system, which weakens the overall concept framing.

✍️ Project positionality needs clarification.

*ABOUT

NEXT APPROACH

The research poster was described as underdeveloped, as it currently presents only general ideas and early layouts. I was encouraged to move beyond abstraction by initiating visual experiments and developing clearer design directions based on my research.

✍️ Shift from general concepts to visual-led exploration.

RESULT & REFLECTION

The feedback I received comes from a follow-up discussion with chi Ngoc after this week’s production meeting.

👩‍💻 I think most of the issues came from not fully documenting my process. I often focus too much on the main outcomes and overlook documenting smaller steps while working, which became a weakness in presentation.

To address this, over the coming weeks I will prioritise documenting my visual experiments more consistently and reduce the emphasis on additional research. Any research work will focus only on refining the proposal content for the research poster, or, if necessary, finalising the project direction to its most resolved form.

*ABOUT PROJECT

DIRECTION

Chi Ngoc did not raise further concerns about my theme idea and considered it sufficiently developed at this stage. She acknowledged that I already have a relatively strong research foundation, so the theme itself is no longer the main issue.

✍️ Theme direction is considered clear enough.

*ABOUT CONCEPT

& POSITIONING

While the research basis is solid, chi Ngoc emphasised that this semester places strong weight on visual exploration. She pointed out that the value of the project will depend less on refining the theme conceptually and more on how effectively the research is translated into visual experiments.

✍️ Visual exploration is prioritised over further conceptual refinement.

*ABOUT

NEXT APPROACH

Although the final outcomes may still sit within UI/UX, I was advised not to limit experimentation to digital interfaces. Instead, I was encouraged to explore a wider range of visual approaches, including physical materials, to open up more diverse forms of visual investigation and experimentation.

✍️ Shift from general concepts to visual-led exploration.

👩‍💻 From this point, I made the final shift in my project direction, based on the follow-up feedback from chi Duong.

I see this change as necessary rather than drastic, as it does not alter the core of the project.

To make the direction clearer and more convincing, I needed a stronger value anchor. I decided to focus on the enduring values that shape Hanoi, specifically the people and the everyday stories behind those who occupy the sidewalks.
